Sofas anchor rooms. They’re most often the piece that draws your immediate attention when you enter a room. They’re also the piece of furniture that sticks around for the longest time because of the price tag associated with a quality one. This makes them investments pieces.

Here are our top 5 tips for choosing a statement sofa that you won’t grow tired of.

1 Go Neutral

An easy way guarantee that your sofa stands the test of time and of other decorating trends is to go for something neutral. Having a neutral sofa is like a quality LBD or a staple pair of jeans – it goes with everything!

2 Well-Designed Silhouette

My favorite thing about my sofa (other than the color) are the tailored lines. Stay away from boring predictable lines and go for something with a smooth, sexy silhouette. The lines of your sofa create a template for designing the rest of your room. If your main piece of furniture is sloppy and frumpy it’ll be difficult to get that clean, tailored room you’re looking for.

3 COLOR!

I know this contradicts our first tip above but a colorful sofa can add a huge dose of personality and life to your Living Room. I’m also an advocate of pretty patterns. For this option balance is important since you don’t want your room to end up being over stimulating. Layer in some neutrals in your other key pieces…or be a rebel and go bold all the way!

4 Texture

A simple sofa in a neutral fabric can be spiced up by adding texture to the fabric you choose. Velvet, wool or woven fabrics are great for this and add visual and textural interest.

5 Invest

We always implore our clients to set aside a sizable budget for their sofa. This is not the area to skimp on. You use your sofa every day and expect it to last for many years. Investing in a quality piece that has been carefully crafted ensures that your dear friend sticks around for a long time. Make sure that the vendor you source it from has a good warranty or service program that you can take advantage of if necessary.
